Incident Involving ICE Agent in Minneapolis

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that a woman shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday was allegedly attempting to harm police officers with her vehicle. Noem insisted that all elected officials need to denounce violent acts against law enforcement.

During a press conference near the southern Texas border, Noem explained that ICE agents were involved in enforcement operations when they encountered a car stuck in the snow. When they approached to assist, the woman reportedly “attacked them and those around her,” attempting to run them over with her vehicle.

“This was an act of domestic terrorism,” Noem commented, adding that the officers acted defensively to protect themselves and others present.

The woman, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was confirmed deceased. Details regarding the incident are still emerging, but Noem indicated that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is collaborating with the Department of Justice to take action against individuals who endanger law enforcement officers.

This incident occurred just days after DHS had deployed an additional 2,000 police officers to the Minneapolis region, which has led to protests in the city. Noem highlighted that ICE agents have arrested numerous violent criminals in Minneapolis.

She emphasized, “The kind of behavior we saw today … every politician, every elected official, every person in this country should come together and say that’s wrong.” Noem argued that sanctuary cities and states that protect such individuals should not continue to exist, urging those in power in these jurisdictions to collaborate in safeguarding both law enforcement and citizens.

Noem also mentioned that President Donald Trump is working to ensure that residents, regardless of their state’s political leanings, can live securely and raise their families without fear.

Interestingly, the shooting comes on the heels of an incident in which ICE agents fatally shot a woman in Chicago last October during Operation Midway. Initially, DHS reported that its agents were ambushed by several protesters, some armed with semi-automatic rifles.

Further complexity arose as the woman involved in that incident, later identified as Marimar Martinez, was labeled a “domestic terrorist.” Charges against her and another individual for allegedly using their vehicle to ram into a federal agent’s car were eventually dropped when evidence suggested the federal agents may have instigated the confrontation.

Martinez had a valid concealed carry permit and reportedly had not threatened anyone with a legally owned weapon left in her vehicle. Her defense team is considering a civil lawsuit against the investigator involved in the shooting.
