States joining the evacuation Wednesday morning included Connecticut, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi and Montana.
In Georgia, Gabriel Sterling, an elections official in the Secretary of State's Office, posted on X at 8:30 a.m. ET that there had been a bomb threat at the Georgia State Capitol.
Gov. Andy Beshear (D-Kentucky) told X that the state Capitol building had also been evacuated as police investigated an incident of intimidation at the Secretary of State's office.
Beshear's announcement came as Kentucky lawmakers were meeting in the Capitol annex for ethics training.
Additionally, public safety officials placed the Mississippi State Capitol on lockdown after receiving a bomb threat on the second day of the legislative session.
“This is an ongoing investigation and there is no further threat to the Capitol or surrounding buildings,” Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Bailey Martin said in a statement.
The bomb threats across the U.S. come after a series of false alarms in recent days about shots fired at the homes of officials.
Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) was the target of a fake emergency call on Christmas morning.
Additionally, Maine Secretary of State Shena Bellows (D-Maine) was also targeted for “swatting” the day after she removed former President Donald Trump's name from the state's presidential ballot.
Hundreds of swatting incidents against public servants occur every year.
