A maniac is suspected of pistol-whipping a female postal worker during an attempted robbery of an East Harlem post office, the New York City Police Department announced Friday night.
Officers were called to the Hellgate Station Post Office, 153 East 110th Street, just after 6:15 p.m.
Police said the man was suspected of breaking into the post office with a gun and attempting to rob a federal building, adding that he hit a 51-year-old woman in the head with the gun and demanded money.
However, the suspect fled empty-handed on his bicycle.
The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene and did not require further treatment, the NYPD said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
The daring robbery attempt comes just a week after a postal worker was stabbed to death in a Harlem deli.
Ray Hodges, a USPS mail carrier in Manhattan, was stabbed several times after stepping in front of Jaire Cruz as she waited in line inside a deli.
Cruz was arrested at the scene and charged with murder.
