“Wonderland: Curious Nature” at the New York Botanical Garden
This new exhibition, themed “Alice in Wonderland,” opened last weekend and runs until October 27th, with plenty of photo opportunities. Giant mushrooms that glow iridescent at night, shimmering mirrors arranged by artist Alison Schotz on the edge of a forest, whimsical cottages made of fungal bricks, vibrant Victorian gardens, and fern-covered trees. Brooklyn Paramount Historic Theater
It first opened in 1928 as a state-of-the-art music and film palace designed for sound films. Legends such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, and Miles Davis performed there. However, it closed as a theater in 1962 and was taken over by Long Island University, which used it as an over-the-top basketball court for several decades. After several years of renovation, it reopened in March this year as a stunning venue for live concerts and selfies. Admire vintage chandeliers and Baroque columns, take photos, then watch the show. “Limitless” Mercer Lab, Museum of Arts and Technology
The immersive museum experience opened in January in the 36,000-square-foot space formerly occupied by Century 21. Roy Nachum’s “Limitless,” currently on display through January 2025, is the inaugural exhibit, taking viewers on a tour of a dozen spaces that will shock your senses. Freedom Plaza Field of Light
Fully lit. Really. This 6-acre installation by British artist Bruce Munro is made up of his 18,750 colorful stemmed spherical lights rising from the ground. Visitors can leisurely stroll along winding paths as flower-like lights glow in green, blue, pink, and purple. There are many places to stop to take great photos. Gansevoort Peninsula
Manhattan’s first public beach finally opened last October after years of construction and anticipation. Located in Hudson River Park, overlooking the downtown Manhattan skyline, 1,200 tons of sand, dog park, and picnic area. The team behind the MáLà project just opened a cocktail bar and jazz venue inspired by 1960s and 1970s surrealism downtown. This 6,300-square-foot space is dramatically covered in rich cobalt, from the walls to the floor, from the stairs to the bathroom tiles.
