Joy Reid and Piers Morgan Clash Over Race Debate
Former MSNBC host Joy Reid expressed her anger on Thursday when Piers Morgan challenged her by repeatedly mentioning “race cards.” During their heated exchange on “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Morgan bluntly told Reid that his departure from MSNBC wasn’t related to his skin color. Reid, visibly upset, accused Morgan of trying to steer the conversation toward race issues. She argued that discussing race without substantial proof was just part of Morgan’s routine.
“It’s funny that you play the race card as your card. You seem quite fixated on racializing our discussions,” Morgan retorted. He defended himself by claiming he had probably had more conversations about race than any other MSNBC host.
Earlier, Morgan pressed Reid about why President Trump faces harsher criticism regarding his deportation policies than former President Obama, who also had a controversial record on immigration. Reid, who has often focused on race topics, claimed that Morgan’s discussions are biased towards white European perspectives.
“I think it’s your angle to racialize discussions. When you, as a white European, talk about race, portraying Obama as just a black president feels like an oversimplification,” she said.
Morgan, on the other hand, found it amusing that he could label Trump as a “white fascist” but was discouraged from mentioning Obama’s race when discussing similar issues. He called Reid a “hypocrite” for criticizing Trump while overlooking Obama’s actions regarding immigration. Reid countered that Trump’s policies represented a form of “literal terrorism” against immigrants.
Following their discussion, Reid commented on Morgan’s peculiar fixation on black individuals, especially Meghan Markle and other women of color. She expressed that Morgan has an unsettling obsession with these figures, often trying to catch them off-guard during interviews.
Throughout her stint at MSNBC, Reid made controversial remarks about white individuals, once labeling Senator Mark Kelly as “Super White” in a discussion about Vice President Kamala Harris. In April 2022, she accused Elon Musk of wanting to revert to apartheid in his support for free speech on Twitter, overlooking Musk’s own history with anti-apartheid activism.
Reid has also made headlines for suggesting conservatives would trade tax cuts for the opportunity to use racial slurs openly.
