A bill introduced by a Democratic state senator from Oklahoma would include firearm safety devices in legislation exempting them from state taxes.

The goal is reportedly to encourage more Oklahomans to utilize gun safeties, according to KJRH report. The paper cited Dossett’s fall 2023 research on the issue and claimed the bill has support from the Oklahoma Rifle Association and the organization Everytown.
“Most Oklahomans are responsible gun owners, and many already use such devices,” Dossett argued. “This tax exemption will encourage more responsible gun owners to use their guns.”
Under the proposed amendment, firearm safety devices would be exempt from Oklahoma’s state sales tax. 4.5%. This will reportedly include gun safes, gun cases (presumably with some kind of lock), lock boxes, and trigger locks.
