A prominent oncologist is raising concerns about former President Biden’s timeline regarding his prostate cancer diagnosis. Specifically, he questioned Biden’s assertion that his condition is characterized by “hormonal sensitivity.”
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Dr. David B. Samady, a urologist specializing in prostate issues, expressed skepticism about how doctors could have made such a determination unless Biden, who is 82, was already in treatment for cancer. He remarked, “A week ago they had prostate nodules. They had a biopsy within a week and are suffering from illness.”
Dr. Samady continued, noting, “You need to get the injection and see if the patient responds. I don’t know what his PSA is,” referring to the prostate-specific antigen tests that gauge prostate health.

“If PSA starts to go down, that’s how he’ll know he’s hormone sensitive. I’m not sure how all the information from diagnosis to treatment can be conveyed in just a week. The story just doesn’t quite add up,” he added.
Another urological oncologist pointed out that a vast majority—around 98-99%—of prostate cancers are indeed sensitive to hormone therapy, explaining that testosterone fuels the growth of prostate cancer.
“For patients who are newly diagnosed with prostate cancer, we anticipate that PSA will decrease if they start on hormone-reducing medications,” said Manish Vira, who leads urology at the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. “We expect the cancer to shrink because essentially all prostate cancers respond to testosterone.”
