Only 1 in 4 Voters Rate Economy ‘Excellent’ or ‘Good’ Under Biden-Harris Admin Policies

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris did not receive positive marks for their management of the economy. Financial Times A poll from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business released Monday found that a majority want reform.

While only one in four voters rated the economy as “very good” or “good” under a Biden-Harris administration, 42% said the economy would be “much” or “somewhat” better if former President Donald Trump wins in November, compared with just 33% who said the same if Harris were president.

Harris faces the dilemma of replacing Biden as the top Democratic candidate.

Sixty percent said they wanted to make significant or complete changes to current economic policy, while just 11% said Harris should maintain her administration’s policies.

Twenty-nine percent said Harris should make small changes, 23% said she should make big changes, and a majority said Harris should “completely abandon” her administration’s policies.

The survey found that inflation, which has risen about 20% overall under Trump, is voters’ biggest concern, with only 19% saying they are better off now than they were under Trump.

Public opinion poll sampling The poll of 1,001 voters was conducted Aug. 1-5, with a margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.

“[T]”Voters still believe they would be better off with a Trump presidency, so anxiety about who will succeed them persists,” said Eric Gordon, a professor at the university. “Most voters put their own interests first and big policy issues second.” Times.

Harris hasn’t completely distanced herself from the administration’s policies, but she has mirrored Trump’s campaign pledge to end the tip tax, contradicting the administration’s position.

In 2022, Harris was the deciding vote to pass the Stop Inflation Act, which gave the IRS $80 billion in additional taxpayer funds, which the IRS used to implement the administration’s IRS expansion plan to force service industry workers to report tips to the federal government and make them taxable.

“Two years ago today, I proudly voted in the runoff election to pass the Stop Inflation Act,” Harris boasted last week.
