Awake Illinois founder Shannon Adcock has launched a campaign against the bill, Center Square reported.
“In Illinois, parents who are considered child abusers can lose custody of their children if they do not approve of transgender drug treatment or surgical procedures such as penis or breast removal. This is unbelievable. It’s as extreme as it gets,” Adcock told the outlet.
Adcock also explained to Center Square that under the Starbucks-Murray bill, it’s not just denied abortions, hormone therapy, and other sex surgeries that could trigger child abuse and neglect charges. She also said refusing “primary medical care” such as prescription drugs or vaccines could trigger child abuse charges.
“And if a minor chooses this and you, as a parent, deny it, that means you are considered a child abuser,” Adcock added at Center Square.
Adcock also told the outlet that the bill expands disclosure requirements for reporters of allegations of child neglect and abuse.
