Paris Jackson Reflects on Strict Childhood Rules Imposed by Michael Jackson
Paris Jackson shared that her father, the iconic Michael Jackson, enforced strict guidelines to maintain a sense of normalcy amid the glamor of their lives. Despite his fame, he emphasized discipline in their upbringing.
She recounted how Michael required her to finish homework and chores before enjoying weekend activities. Limits were placed on screen time, and they were even made to wear masks in public to shield their identities from the media frenzy surrounding their family.
“Throughout my childhood, it was clear: you do your chores and homework, and then you can enjoy some fun. If everything is done, we could visit the animals or go to the movies,” Paris explained.
She noted that even visits to their father’s famous Neverland Ranch felt more about giving experiences to underprivileged and terminally ill kids than it was for her family. “The appeal of it all became very clear — it wasn’t ours,” she added.
Due to frequent moves, the rules remained consistent, so plans for outings varied depending on their location. “If we were living in Las Vegas, we might go to the circus. Or in Virginia, it was Chuck E. Cheese,” she remembered.
When it came to television, Michael allowed viewing only after duties were completed, with exceptions for studying films without sound.
Michael’s approach extended beyond just routines; he ensured their privacy by requiring them to wear masks in public. “I understood that if I did this, I could go somewhere fun that weekend and feel normal,” Paris reflected. It made sense to her at the time.
Although the mask granted her a layer of anonymity, Paris still recognized her father’s fame, though she didn’t fully grasp its magnitude until later. “Looking out the hotel window, seeing a sea of people with signs made me realize I wasn’t naive about this,” she admitted.
Paris Jackson, the only daughter of Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe, has since built her career in modeling, acting, and music. After gaining public exposure following her father’s passing in 2009, she pursued various artistic paths and released her debut album, “Wilted,” in 2020. She has two brothers, Prince and Bigi, who are also making their mark in the entertainment industry.
