Pennsylvania Lawmaker Removed for Flag-Themed Jacket
A Republican legislator from Pennsylvania reported that many people at the state Capitol appreciated his American flag jacket. However, he was ultimately approached by security and told to either remove the jacket or leave the House floor.
Representative Eric D’Avanzo arrived at the House chamber on Tuesday dressed in what he described as a “patriotic” coat and tie.
“Instead of focusing on the important work we need to do, we’re fixating on trivial issues like this jacket,” he expressed in a video shared from his office. D’Avanzo later told Blaze News that most people seemed to enjoy his outfit before discovering that Democratic House Speaker Joanna McClinton had objections.
“Everyone loved it,” he stated. “People hugged me and shook my hand.”
McClinton reportedly suggested that the jacket and tie were not suited for daily wear.
“I’m going to wear this again when I get home,” he insisted. “This isn’t a costume; it’s a reflection of my beliefs. I consider myself a patriot,” he added.
After being instructed to either take off the jacket or leave, D’Avanzo opted to exit the floor.
“In just a few days, we’ll celebrate America’s 250th Independence Day,” he noted. “Would you like to try it on?”
According to a spokesperson for McClinton, the jacket was deemed inappropriate for the occasion.
“House Democrats are here to focus on the significant task of passing a responsible budget that benefits all Pennsylvanians,” the spokesperson remarked. “Meanwhile, some House Republicans have decided to dress up instead.”
D’Avanzo criticized McClinton for prioritizing clothing over pressing issues.
“People are facing financial hardships. Instead of addressing those concerns, we’re getting sidetracked by things like this jacket,” he said.
“We love America,” D’Avanzo added with pride. “I stand by my choice to wear this.”
