Authorities have revealed that a teacher in Pennsylvania is facing 63 felony charges related to claims of sexual misconduct and providing drugs to a student.
Michelle Melcogliano, 35, from Phoenixville, is reportedly charged with several offenses, including institutional sexual assault, corruption of a minor, and delivery of a controlled substance, alongside others.
“The calculated actions by this defendant are shocking and intrusive,” remarked a representative from the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.
While Melcogliano has yet to be arrested, the DA’s office indicated she is cooperating with the investigation and is coordinating through her attorney.
A special education teacher at Conestoga High School in Berwyn, Melcogliano’s situation escalated after family members of the alleged victim alerted authorities over suspicions of abuse.
According to an affidavit, the victim’s father uncovered packaging for medical marijuana in his teen’s bedroom closet, which was reportedly linked to Melcogliano.
The affidavit includes a statement from Melcogliano admitting to having a sexual relationship with a student from her school, which she disclosed began in February 2025.
The investigation found that the suspect engaged in sexual activities with the 16-year-old approximately 12 times and also mentioned an instance of oral sex.
Most of these interactions reportedly took place at Melcogliano’s parents’ house.
Furthermore, the affidavit alleges that Melcogliano took the victim to a cannabis clinic to buy medical marijuana, and they would often consume it together, usually followed by sexual activity in her family home.
Criminal documents indicate she communicated with the victim through Snapchat and text messages.
After police informed the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District about the accusations, Melcogliano was placed on leave and prohibited from entering any school in the district.
Principal Richard Gusic sent a letter to parents clarifying the situation, while noting that there was currently no evidence indicating other students had been abused.
District Attorney Christopher L. de Ballerna Sarobe emphasized the importance of trust between parents, students, and teachers, indicating that Melcogliano’s actions broke that trust.
Michael Beaty, police chief of Tredyffrin Township, voiced support for the victim and their family, stating that they’re focused on helping them rebuild trust after this incident.
The police have noted that the investigation is ongoing and are encouraging anyone with further information to reach out to the Tredyffrin Township Police Station.
Reports suggest Melcogliano started her teaching career at the high school last fall and had previously taught at Hillside Elementary School from 2019 to 2024.
