Florida Man Arrested for Stabbing Rideshare Driver in IHOP

A man from Florida was taken into custody on Monday after allegedly stabbing a rideshare driver inside an IHOP in Orlando. The incident began when Jovaughn Nathan Massey reportedly attacked the driver after he was denied a ride without going through the rideshare app.

At this time, the condition of the driver has not been disclosed, but Massey is facing charges of attempted murder.

According to police, after the stabbing, Massey fled to another IHOP location in northeast Orlando.

Body camera footage from officers showed them surrounding Massey as he sat drinking something hot. The restaurant appeared empty, suggesting it had been evacuated.

Officers instructed him multiple times to sit on the ground, lie face down, and place his hands behind his back. When he hesitated, one officer, accompanied by a police dog, warned him that if he didn’t comply, “the dog would bite me.”

Once he was handcuffed, officers helped him to his feet and discovered what appeared to be a lengthy object in his pocket. Further investigation revealed that it was a knife, wrapped in cloth.

Orlando police have not provided additional information, stating that they are withholding details to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
