Unusual Bank Incident Involving a Deer
It seems a bank had a rather unexpected visit. Suffolk County police responded to a burglary alert at a Webster Bank branch and instead found a full-grown male deer causing mayhem inside.
Police Chief Kevin Catalina commented, “No charges were pressed in this situation, but the deer is still around for potential future escapades at another bank.” He added that it highlights the unpredictable nature of daily interactions for law enforcement.
The strange sequence of events occurred on Sunday when officers arrived at the bank in Ridge, Long Island, discovering a broken window and an unmistakable intruder inside. Video footage shared on social media depicts the frightened deer attempting to escape.
In the video, one officer could be seen chasing after the buck as it leaped away. “The deer was frantic, creating a chaotic scene, but thankfully, officers managed to safely capture it and lead it back outside,” according to the police’s social media update.
A team of five officers worked together to guide the deer back to safety. “Ultimately, their mission is to assist both individuals and the community, and I believe they accomplished that,” said Catalina.
Interestingly, just last month, a different deer stirred up trouble in a quiet Long Island neighborhood, going on a rampage for three days, even knocking on a resident’s door.
In another incident, a white-tailed deer in Lake Ronkonkoma caused considerable damage before sadly being found deceased after evading capture by the police.
A neighbor, Patricia Mudaro, reflected on the chaos, mentioning, “I felt I needed to go to church after all this unfolded.”
