Homeland Security Criticizes Sanctuary Cities
President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has voiced concerns about politicians, suggesting they are “playing Russian roulette in American life.” This comes as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carries out arrests of multiple violent illegal immigrants in certain states.
DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin expressed in a statement, “These sanctuary politicians play Russian roulette in American life.” She emphasized that officials in sanctuary cities, including Philadelphia, Boston, Newark, and California, aim to hinder ICE operations, but the DHS remains committed to deporting illegal immigrants involved in crime. McLaughlin urged that the safety of American citizens should be the priority, stating, “No American wants to loosen criminal illegal aliens on the streets of America.”
Recently, on May 15, ICE apprehended Jose Reyes Alvarez, a 28-year-old MS-13 gang member from El Salvador. He had been previously arrested in a Massachusetts sanctuary for driving without a license.
Additionally, Oscar Yuracan, a 32-year-old illegal immigrant from Guatemala, was arrested by ICE in Newark, New Jersey. Yuracan has a criminal background that includes charges of sexual assault during a robbery.
In Los Angeles, which is known for being a prominent sanctuary jurisdiction, ICE agents arrested Manuel Severiano Garcia Munoz, a 32-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico. Munoz had previously been deported and has a criminal record that includes assault with a deadly weapon, leading to a four-year prison sentence.
Tito Flores Gonzalez, a 27-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico, was also taken into custody in Philadelphia. He reportedly left the U.S. for Mexico twice after crossing the border but returned for a third time, heading back to Philadelphia.
