Polling expert gives CNN host the cold, hard facts about Trump’s trial — and the numbers don’t look good for Democrats

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (Democrat) does not appear to be winning in the court of public opinion.

CNN data expert Harry Enten explained on Wednesday that Bragg’s prosecution of Donald Trump over hush money allegations of election interference has not hurt Trump’s image among the American public.

“Trump’s momentum is showing no signs of slowing as he continues to surge ahead in the general election like never before.”

Citing two Quinnipiac University polls: This was taken before the trial began. and One second filmed last weekEnten said the percentage of Americans who believe Trump committed illegal acts remains unchanged at 46%.

But the second indicator actually points to a trial. It helped Trump.

“Over the course of this trial, the percentage of Americans who believe the charges are very serious actually fell from 40 percent to just over 35 percent,” Enten noted.

The fact that Americans do not oppose President Trump raises an interesting question: Why?

After all, Democrats and the media have spent a great deal of energy over the past year highlighting Trump’s legal problems. Wouldn’t that at least make things better? a bit In their favor?

Ultimately, Enten explained, Americans aren’t as concerned about Trump’s legal issues as they are about their own issues, like the economy, inflation and immigration.

“What we’re seeing is that Americans’ minds haven’t changed, and a big reason why Americans’ minds haven’t changed is that at this point they’re staying out of the conversation,” Enten said.

“At this point, Trump’s momentum is moving faster than it has ever been in a general election and shows no signs of slowing down, despite the criminal charges and this case in New York going to a jury,” he added.

While the trial itself appears to have had little impact on the public, it remains to be seen what impact the ruling will have on the election.

A guilty verdict could work in Trump’s favor by bolstering the perception that he was unfairly targeted to help President Joe Biden’s reelection, while an acquittal is unlikely to have any impact because fewer than a majority of Americans consider the charges “very serious.”
