Pollster Frank Luntz is sounding the alarm for President Joe Biden’s campaign.
This week, According to a recent Des Moines Register poll: Donald Trump is leading Biden Approximately 20 points In the Hawkeye State, it was 50% to 32% of voters.
The last time a Republican won Minnesota in a presidential election was in 1972, when then-President Richard Nixon won 49 of the 50 states in the Electoral College.
But that’s not a big story in the Midwest, according to Luntz. Instead, he argued that the Minnesota polls are what the Biden campaign should be concerned about. According to a poll Trump is trying to turn Minnesota into a swing state.
“To me, it’s not that Donald Trump is winning by a landslide in Iowa. That’s not the issue. What’s the issue is that he’s in a close race in Minnesota,” Luntz told CNN.
“Minnesota is a solid Democratic state and votes Democratic in every presidential election and opinion poll. I expect Trump to have a two or three point lead in Minnesota,” he explained.
Luntz also said the fact that so few people are talking about President Trump’s performance in the Gopher State shows the media has misread the political situation.
“I don’t think the media understands exactly what’s going on,” Luntz said. “Trump did drop a few points in the polls after he was convicted of 34 felonies, but remember that 10 years ago that would have doomed any candidate. And the fact is that Donald Trump is neck and neck with Joe Biden, or in some cases even ahead, after being convicted of 34 felonies.”
“Oh my goodness! that’s very serious,” he cried.
How important is that?
The last time a Republican won Minnesota in a presidential election was in 1972, when then-President Richard Nixon won 49 of the state’s 50 electoral votes. The fact that Trump could win the state in November highlights Biden’s problems.
The first major turning point in the election could come next week.
Trump and Biden are scheduled to face off in Atlanta on June 27 in the first of several scheduled presidential debates. How each candidate performs could potentially influence undecided voters and even give one candidate an edge over the other in what has so far been a close race.
Biden will spend the next week preparing for the debate at Camp David. Meanwhile, Trump Said this week He doesn’t underestimate his opponents.
