Prince Harry's statements may return to trouble him as his libel case is examined, according to an expert.

That’s the situation for Harry.

As Prince Harry faces increased scrutiny due to Sentebale’s defamation lawsuit, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield suggests that his own statements may turn against him.

Schofield remarked, “Sentebale is doing what the British royal family can’t: holding Prince Harry accountable for airing his grievances at others’ expense.”

“His public remarks have tangible repercussions,” she continued. “After the interview with Oprah and Meghan Markle, the royal family’s popularity took a significant hit.” During that interview, Markle raised allegations of racism within the family, an issue that left them almost paralyzed to react.

Furthermore, Schofield mentioned that Dr. Sophie Chandauka, chairman of Sentebale, has reportedly shared findings with Harry that suggest growing public polarization may be hurting charity fundraising.

“She indicated that this moment marked a downturn in relations between the Duke and the charity’s new leadership,” Schofield explained. “As tensions rose, Prince Harry made a high-profile resignation, with those around him accusing Chandauka of orchestrating a ‘hostile takeover’ of the charity he founded.”

Schofield elaborated, saying, “Prince Harry has committed to challenging media narratives and holding journalists accountable for their reporting. However, the impending lawsuit could place him in an unusual position where he must defend his own words and actions in court.”

As for King Charles and Prince William, they are reportedly keeping a close watch on the defamation case against Harry.

Schofield noted, “For years, they haven’t been able to publicly contest Harry’s claims. The courtroom may offer the first real examination of those claims, presenting Harry with an opportunity to seek some form of vindication against institutions that have remained silent during his public controversies.”

Sentebale, the charity co-founded by Prince Harry in 2006 in memory of his mother, Princess Diana, initiated a libel and slander lawsuit against him on March 24.

The lawsuit also named Mark Dyer, a close friend of Harry’s and former Sentebale councilor, as a defendant, accusing him of initiating a “systematic adverse media campaign” against Sentebale starting in March 2025.

Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, with whom Harry co-founded Sentebale, stepped down from the charity last year amid a very public fallout with Chandauka.

Chandauka has filed a complaint with the Regulated Charities Commission over allegations of bullying and harassment, which is currently under investigation. The commission found “no evidence” of widespread issues, but criticized both Harry and Chandauka for allowing their dispute to play out publicly.

Regarding the defamation suit, representatives for Prince Harry and Dyer stated that they “categorically reject” the charity’s “offensive and harmful claims.”

Schofield mentioned that Harry may feel “frustrated” with Chandauka’s boldness in filing the defamation complaint.

“This sends a clear message to Sentebale, and also to other charities, that Prince Harry has a responsibility,” Schofield concluded.
