Project Veritas, James O’Keefe settle suit over false claims of 2020 voter fraud in Pennsylvania

Project Veritas and conservative activist James O’Keefe have settled a lawsuit in Pennsylvania over false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election originally made by a postal worker who supported former President Trump.

Robert Weisenbach, an attorney representing the Erie Postmaster General who filed the lawsuit, said: confirmed to NBC News. The matter was reportedly resolved on undisclosed terms.

Weisenbach, who voted for former President Trump in the 2020 election, said Hopkins’ accusations forced him to evacuate his home after his address was posted online, according to the Associated Press.

O’Keefe and Project Veritas promoted the claims of Richard Hopkins, a supporter of former President Trump who worked as a postal worker. He attracted attention from Republicans over allegations that authorities tampered with mail-in ballots in swing states won by President Biden in 2020.

in Statement posted on XProject Veritas said Hopkins “has since learned that he was wrong” and that Weisenbach and the USPS were not involved in any election fraud. The group said it is not aware of any other evidence of fraud at the Erie Post Office during the 2020 election.

The group also posted a statement from Hopkins, in which he acknowledged that he had reported the incident to conservative media outlet Project Veritas but had “only heard snippets of the conversation.”

“As I now know, I was wrong,” Hopkins said in a statement. “I apologize to Mr. Weisenbach and his family, to the Erie Post Office staff, and to everyone who was adversely affected by my reporting.”

O’Keefe, who was ousted as Project Veritas’ CEO in February 2023, said in a statement to NBC News that he was not aware of any other evidence of election fraud at the Postal Service. He said he did not.
