Prominent left-wing pundit admits he’s optimistic following Trump’s win: MAGA ‘not my mortal enemy’

Cenk Uyghur, co-host of the left-wing “The Young Turks” and a longtime anti-Trump activist, acknowledged that President-elect Donald Trump's victory earlier this month “gave him a sense of optimism.”

The Uighur, who has routinely railed against President Trump for years on progressive online talk shows, posted on his Twitter: friday x account He said he accepted Trump's victory because it meant the “establishment” had been defeated.

“I've been trying to understand why, even though I was so opposed to whoever won, I'm more optimistic now than I was before the election. I understand now. “My mortal enemy (and not the extreme one) is the establishment, and they have been defeated!” he wrote.

The point marks a notable about-face for the progressive host, who had called President Trump an “unstable lunatic” during an episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored” weeks before the election. There is.

Uyghurs brought up a variety of anti-Trump talking points on a British journalist's popular web show. “He thinks we should abolish the Constitution. He has no qualms about trampling on our democracy. We can't let that clown come here and destroy this country.” Morgan told the guest panel.

But on Friday, Uyghurs seemed satisfied that not only the “regime candidate” had been defeated, but the mainstream media had also suffered a major blow.

In a follow-up post on They are not such bland politicians. Their source of strength is their propaganda machine, the mainstream media.”

He went on to point out that President Trump's victory has given independent media more freedom.

“Now online media is powerful enough that their oppressive monopoly on the American mind has been shattered. Now we're in the jungle. They hate it. ! I love it! This uncontrolled marketplace of ideas is my home. “I'd rather be in the forest of populism than in the prisons of the establishment.”

Various commentators and the Trump campaign itself credit independent media for the president-elect's victory on Election Day. Ahead of the vote, then-candidate Trump chose to appear on a popular podcast and be interviewed by key influencers such as Joe Rogan and the Nerk Boys.

Trump's pivot to podcasts, as opposed to traditional media interviews, this election cycle has paid off with Gen Z men and millennials. A Fox News voter poll released earlier this month found that 53% of men between the ages of 18 and 44 support Mr. Trump, compared to 45% for Vice President Kamala Harris.

Former Young Turks alum Jimmy Dore was not satisfied with his former colleague's new position. Post to X“Cenk is a charlatan and a zealous propagandist who is the cancer of American political discourse.”

Uyghur came under fire earlier this month on Morgan's talk show after he accused presidential historian Alan Lichtman of having incorrectly predicted the 2024 election in his famous “Keys to the White House” predictive model. It became a hot topic.

The historian predicted Harris would win.

“Look, I had an argument with Professor Lichtman before. I told him his theory about the key was ridiculous. I was right. He was wrong. I told him he was going to lose the key. I said I was deaf,” Uyghur said during a panel discussion about Professor Lichtman, who was also in attendance. .

Lichtman shot back, “No, you weren't right, and I wasn't!” He added: “It's a cheap ploy. I don't support it.”
