In the past year, several notable American scientists and researchers have either died or gone missing, prompting discussions about the possible suspicious nature of these disappearances.
William Neil McCasland, a 68-year-old retired Major General from the Air Force, went missing on February 27 after reporting several unidentified flying objects disappear in New Mexico, according to NewsNation. Congressman Tim Burchett from Tennessee expressed his belief that a troubling pattern exists, with other researchers vanishing under similar circumstances across the nation.
Burchett mentioned, “There are several other people across the country who have gone missing under suspicious circumstances,” urging people to take note of this trend. He added that the numbers in certain fields of research seem unusually high, suggesting a cautious approach to trusting the government.
He remarked on the secretive nature of researchers involved with UFOs, stating, “Everyone’s talking about UFOs. Those guys are very secretive about what they know, so I’m very suspicious of what’s next.” It appears McCasland’s involvement in these discussions raises further questions.
Interestingly, McCasland’s wife, Susan, maintained that there was no indication of foul play in her husband’s disappearance. Nevertheless, she noted that he left home that day with only a pair of boots and a revolver.
On the topic of possible foul play, investigative journalist Ross Coulthardt suggested during a segment on “NewsNation Prime” that McCasland’s disappearance could indeed be linked to something more sinister. He raised the question of whether someone might have intervened to prevent McCasland from discussing sensitive military secrets.
Monica Reza, another researcher, went missing while hiking in Angeles National Forest in June 2025. She was a materials scientist previously affiliated with Aerojet Rocketdyne, which had ties to the government. The New York Post reported that McCasland once directed materials for the Air Force Research Laboratory, connecting him to Reza’s line of work.
As for their cases, it’s still uncertain whether McCasland’s and Reza’s disappearances are connected. The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office stated that detectives are looking into this possibility.
In addition, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently announced the death of former professor Nuno Loureiro, who was shot and killed at 47. His loss was mourned by MIT’s president, highlighting the shock surrounding his unexpected passing. Loureiro was known for his work in nuclear science and had been with the university since 2016.
Another notable incident involved Karl Grillmair, a prominent astrophysicist killed in February at his home in California. He had earned recognition for his contributions to advancements in astrophysics and had received various awards from NASA during his career.
In yet another case, the body believed to be Jason Thomas, a 45-year-old scientist from Novartis, was recovered from a lake in Massachusetts after he had gone missing in December. His family had expressed their grief, highlighting the difficult emotional circumstances surrounding his sudden disappearance.
