Putin Discusses Ukraine Conflict with Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin recently expressed the belief that the war in Ukraine might not have occurred if Donald Trump had been president after the 2020 election. This statement came after a meeting with Trump on Friday, where Putin addressed reporters, contending that an invasion would have been unlikely under a Trump administration.
“I want to remind you that during my last communication with the previous administration in 2022, I tried to make it clear to my American counterpart that escalating tensions to a point of conflict was a mistake,” Putin stated. “President Trump is correct in asserting that if he had been in charge, there would be no war—I’m confident that’s true.”
Putin also expressed his regret regarding the deterioration of U.S.-Russia relations since Trump’s presidency, noting that they had reached a low point reminiscent of the Cold War. He indicated that in the past four years, there hadn’t been any summits between the two nations.
“This situation benefits neither of our countries nor the world at large,” he remarked, suggesting that dialogue between the U.S. and Russia was necessary to move past their current confrontational stance.
The Russian leader praised Trump for his efforts to understand the complexities surrounding the origins of the war, describing this dedication as valuable. Putin stated that he hopes Trump’s approach to global diplomacy will aid in rebuilding collaborative and equitable relations during challenging times.
