Putin says Russia is open to economic cooperation with US on rare earth minerals

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was willing to consider Moscow working with the US on Russia and some mined rare earth minerals in Ukraine under Russian occupation.

Putin highlighted the enormous deposits of Russia's rare earth minerals and its importance to the Russian economy in an interview broadcast on Monday on Russian state television, but his country is in the hopes of leveraging its resources. He said he needs to do more. He also said he is open to doing energy trade with the US.

His comments come as he tries to reclaim the costs of aid sent to Ukraine by gaining access to Ukrainian rare earth minerals, such as titanium, iron and uranium, as part of a peace deal.

“Russia is one of the uncontroversial leaders regarding the preparation of these rare and rare metals,” Putin told state media correspondent Pavel Zalbin. “These are highly capital-intensive investment, capital-intensive projects. We are delighted to work with foreign partners, including American partners.”

Putin said Russia is willing to sell around 2 million tonnes of aluminum to the US market if Russia lifts sanctions restricting Russian metal imports. He said the move will help stabilize prices.

He said in 2017 Russia provided about 15% of US aluminum imports. But today, US imports of Russian aluminum are at least triple immersed due to sanctions.

Putin also said that deals could be reached over Ukraine's Russian occupied territory, which he called “the new territory.”

“The same applies when it comes to new territory. It is ready to attract foreign partners, and the so-called new historic territory that has returned to the Russian Federation has certain reserves there,” Putin said. Ta. “We are ready to work with foreign partners, including American partners.”

Putin also said he would be willing to negotiate with the US on Russian energy.

Trump said the deal was “very profitable for their economy,” but added Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent was “very close.”

The president on Monday also predicted that the Russian-Ukraine war could end within weeks and that Putin would accept to allow Ukrainian European peacekeeping forces as part of a potential peace deal.
