Ramon Laureano’s Injury Updates

Padres left fielder Ramon Laureano is expected to be sidelined for four to five months, with the possibility of missing the remainder of the season, as announced by manager Craig Stammen on Friday.

Laureano, who will become a free agent after this season, shared a post on X during the Padres’ 5-0 defeat against the Mets on Friday night, referencing the Bible verse “Hebrews 12:11.” This post came shortly after news emerged regarding the likelihood of his season ending.

The verse reads: “All discipline seems more painful than pleasant for the moment, but later it brings forth the fruits of peaceful righteousness to those who are trained by it.” He also included encouraging phrases like, “Create your own reality” and “Today is the beginning of the rest of your life.”

This week, Laureano was placed on injured reserve due to what the team described as inflammation of the right hip joint. However, it was confirmed on Friday that he has a torn labrum.

“Ramon Laureano underwent surgery today on his right hip to repair the labrum. This is obviously devastating news for us,” Stammen stated. “He’ll probably be out at least until the end of the season, and possibly beyond that.”

Laureano was acquired by San Diego from the Orioles during last year’s MLB trade deadline, along with Ryan O’Hearn, in exchange for six minor league players.

Since joining the Padres, he made a significant impact, hitting nine home runs, driving in 30 runs, and recording nine doubles across 50 games.

This season, Laureano is hitting .203, which reflects similar performance metrics from last year, having tallied seven home runs, 21 RBIs, and six doubles in 53 games.

With Laureano’s potential absence, the Padres will face challenges. Their outfield has been struggling already, with Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jackson Merrill not performing at their usual levels. Given that Gavin Sheets is required for the infield, it seems the team will look to fill left field with Bryce Johnson and Jace Bowen, who was recently called up.
