Charlotte Flair Addresses Double Standards in Wrestling

Charlotte Flair has voiced her concerns about what she sees as a double standard in the wrestling industry regarding age and career longevity. In a recent piece, she highlighted how female wrestlers often face different expectations compared to their male counterparts, such as Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, CM Punk, and John Cena.

Flair stated that the opportunity for female wrestlers doesn’t quite match that of men when it comes to television appearances, main events, titles, and financial rewards. She emphasized that the next significant step for women in the sport should align more closely with their male colleagues.

Raquel Rodriguez, responding to Flair’s insights during an all-women’s premium live event, expressed agreement with her perspective. She pointed out that women often encounter societal expectations at a certain age that can pressure them to step back from the spotlight, while men seem to have more room to continue thriving in their roles.

“It’s frustrating because as men age, they often get better with time, while the expectation for women shifts dramatically,” Rodriguez noted. “Women are constantly expected to perform under immense pressure, as if there’s a limit to how long they can compete.” She pointed out that while women might not always perform like younger gymnasts, there are still many avenues for them to showcase their talents.

As Rodriguez continues in her career, she mentioned the need for recovery and rest as they grow older. “We can’t always keep up the pace of youth athletes,” she said, highlighting how age can impact performance. “However, it’s vital to find ways to keep contributing to the WWE.”

Rodriguez has been part of the women’s wrestling scene since the early days of its evolution, recalling her time training at the WWE Performance Center for the first All-Women’s Premium Live Event in 2016. She, along with Roxanne Perez, will be defending their tag team title in a highly anticipated match featuring Flair and others.

The event is set to take place on Sunday, and it marks a pivotal moment in showcasing the talent and growth of women in professional wrestling.
