Reba McEntire praised for country twist on national anthem at Super Bowl LVIII

Reba McEntire represented country music at Super Bowl VV.

Before the championship game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, McIntyre became the first player to take to the field to sing the national anthem. She wore an ivory sequined blazer and black pants with sequin embroidery, giving her performance of the national anthem a country feel.

Although she has never sung at a Super Bowl, her performance went off without a hitch and received positive reviews from NFL players and fans alike.

“Reba McIntyre proved why she’s a living legend,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We don’t need gimmicks.”

One commenter said, “I got goosebumps. #Reba did a great job.”

In addition to praising her vocal talent, many others commented on her appearance.

“Reba doesn’t age. How?!?!?!?!” one person asked.

Prior to McIntyre’s performance, singer Andra Day wowed the crowd with a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Rapper Post Malone also took to the stage during the pre-show to perform a stripped-down version of “America the Beautiful.” He sang the song and provided accompaniment on his acoustic guitar.

Taylor Swift, who will be collaborating with Malone on a song from her upcoming album, was seen smiling and swaying as she watched him perform.

Usher will headline the halftime show later in the evening.

At a press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, McIntyre said how much he loves the city and is “so tickled” to be playing in his first Super Bowl there.

“I have never sung the national anthem at a Super Bowl before. I am honored beyond words to be chosen to sing the national anthem. It is an honor that I cannot express in words. “It means we can sing a very special song for the people who worked so hard for our freedom and peace,” she said.

“This is not about me. I represent this song and I’m honored to sing this song. It’s a good song. I’ve been doing this song for 50 years, but I’m honored to be able to sing this song. I’m really proud of singing that. ”

To prepare for the big moment, she said: “I sing the national anthem when I ride in the car and in the shower. My boyfriend Rex is a huge football fan and when we went to games, we played all kinds of sports.” And he said, “Okay, one more thing.” Try singing it a few times.” I’m going to say, “I think I know that word pretty well now, so it’s okay.”

“But just be prepared and know that everyone is going to sing along with me. It helps,” she continued. “It’s easier for me when I know they’re singing along and remembering and having fun. Be prepared when you walk out there.”
