Texas Democratic Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett announced on Tuesday her decision to “boycott” President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. She criticized him for what she perceives as a desire to be a “king” and called the current state of political alliances “tough.”
“Tonight, I will boycott Donald Trump’s State of the Union address,” she stated. “The American people deserve better than a despicable charlatan wannabe king who stands at that podium and tries to spew more lies. I refuse to justify the weaponization of the federal government, the blatant lies and corruption, and the subversion of constitutional principles and democratic norms.”
Crockett, who is running in the Texas Democratic Senate primary, emphasized that she wasn’t sent to Washington, D.C. to “indulge Donald Trump’s ego.”
She further expressed her intent to focus on pressing issues back in Texas rather than listening to what she described as Trump’s deceit. “Instead of wasting my time listening to Donald Trump lie to the American people, I will return to Texas and talk to my family about the real situation in our union: cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, corrupt ICE agents on the streets, the Epstein cover-up, attacks on the First Amendment, and illegal tariffs that have made the cost of living too high for Texans,” she mentioned in her statement.
Crockett described the president’s approach as having “authoritarian agendas” and acknowledged the challenges facing unions at the moment. However, she also expressed hope for the future, stating that the tough situation was not permanent, hinting at her commitment to improving the State of the Union.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for a response on Wednesday morning.
