Rep LaMonica McIver questions ICE director, 'Do you believe you'll go to hell?'

Democratic Representative LaMonica McIver is under fire for her remarks directed at Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons during a controversial hearing on Tuesday. Currently facing charges for allegedly interfering with ICE agents, McIver asked Lyons, “How do you think Judgment Day will work for you, with so much blood shed?” This question followed Lyons’ comments about the deaths of individuals allegedly involved in recent ICE activities, something he has vocally condemned alongside President Trump’s immigration policies.

Lyons, however, declined to answer, prompting McIver to follow up with, “Do you think you’ll go to hell?” It’s not hard to imagine the awkwardness that filled the room when House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino reminded everyone to maintain decorum. McIver shot back, “Mr. Chairman, I’m just asking a question. You talk about religion and the Bible all the time.”

As the exchange gained traction online, it sparked significant backlash. Observers noted audible groans from those present, and many criticized McIver’s comments as outlandish. House Republicans expressed discontent, calling her behavior a “complete meltdown.”

Conservative commenters didn’t hold back. Some labeled her comments as “deranged,” while others suggested this incident marks a “low point in Congressional history.” Meanwhile, a few pointed out her ongoing legal issues, questioning why she continues to hold her position.

Amid the uproar, Republican Senator Jim Banks remarked that “ICE Derangement Syndrome is real in today’s Democratic Party.” McIver, representing New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District, faces three federal charges related to an incident at a New Jersey detention center in 2025.

FOX News Digital has reached out to McIver’s office for a response.
