Republicans connect increase in violence against ICE and Border Patrol to Democratic 'falsehoods' and sanctuary policies

Protests Erupt Over Trump’s Immigration Policies

President Donald Trump’s strict approach to undocumented immigration has triggered protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) throughout the United States. House Republicans have pointed out that, in recent times, rhetoric from Democrats aimed at federal immigration officials coincides with a noticeable increase in violence directed at ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

Rep. Tom McClintock from California expressed concern that the “irresponsible” comments from some Democratic lawmakers have emboldened violence against enforcement officials. He emphasized this point in an interview.

On Monday, Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noem condemned the Democratic Party’s “sanctuary urban policy,” particularly in light of the recent shooting of a CBP official in New York City.

Noem highlighted the “unprecedented” threats faced by ICE agents and refuted claims made by Democrats regarding the safety of these officials. In a troubling incident, an illegal immigrant was arrested in connection with the shooting of a CBP officer who was attacked in Riverside Park, Manhattan.

Amid increasing violence, McClintock insisted on the importance of enforcing immigration laws. He stated that the absence of these laws threatens national borders and, consequently, the very existence of the country, referring to the ongoing challenges posed by the Biden administration’s policies.

Democratic Senators Alex Padilla and Cory Booker have criticized Trump’s immigration measures, and introduced legislation requiring immigration officers to identify themselves clearly while on duty. Rep. Andrew Clyde from Georgia also noted a rise in violence, attributing it to the “radical” rhetoric employed by some politicians.

He asserted that such discourse has real-world consequences, escalating tensions and hostility towards law enforcement.

A number of federal immigration enforcement officials, including ICE agents, have faced threats since Trump’s administration aimed at rigorous immigration reforms. Reports include incidents of ambushes and conflicts between protesters and federal officers in various locations, including Portland, Oregon.

Rep. Michael Guest from Mississippi remarked on the growing hostile rhetoric from the Democratic side, particularly pointing to leaders in California—and how it fuels unrest.

Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles has introduced executive measures aimed at curbing ICE raids within the city, criticizing what she describes as “unconstitutional assaults.” She has also formed a working group to aid families impacted by Trump’s deportation policies.

In conclusion, Guest warned that continuous attacks on ICE agents will only exacerbate the violence, a sentiment echoed by other Republicans, including Mariannette Miller-Meeks from Iowa. She noted that it’s unrealistic for law enforcement officials to be attacked while simply doing their jobs. Instead, she suggests prioritizing the fight against gangs and cartels to reclaim safety in communities, especially under the current administration.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Biden administration for comments but did not receive an immediate response.
