Susie Lee Wins Democratic Primary in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District

Incumbent Congresswoman Susie Lee (D-Nevada) secured her place in the upcoming election by winning the Democratic primary on Tuesday for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District.

Her district encompasses the southern part of the Las Vegas area and extends into less populated regions like Searchlight, the hometown of the late U.S. Senator Harry Reid. It’s viewed as a key battleground in the West, designated D+1 by the Cook Political Report.

Lee, noted for her bipartisan approach by Georgetown University’s Lugar Center, faced challengers: James Lally, Terrill Robinson, and Brandon West during the primary.

While the Lugar Center commended her bipartisan efforts, she has been criticized by Republicans for opposing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allegedly offers significant aid to rural organizations in Nevada.

As reported by Center Square, Lee has backers among corporate entities, including AIPAC and Boeing.

Local Concerns About Lee’s Representation

One local mom expressed skepticism regarding Lee’s effectiveness, stating, “She hasn’t done anything for us,” shedding light on constituents’ frustrations. Lally, a cardiologist, countered that Lee’s bipartisan image is misleading, alleging she cannot “appease an authoritarian cult,” a jab aimed at Republican voters and Trump supporters.

Interestingly, President Trump’s message about “no tax on tips” resonates in this district, home to many tipped workers due to its proximity to the Strip.

Robinson, a Marine Corps veteran and former aide to U.S. Rep. Dina Titus (D-Nev.), offers his perspective alongside other contenders.

Views from the Candidates

According to his campaign, Terrill believes the U.S. government is failing ordinary citizens, expressing concerns over corporate influence and declining transparency within government.

Brandon West shared his early work experiences and how they shaped him. He mentioned being involved in the Carl’s Jr. Transportation Safety and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and emphasized the importance of understanding diverse perspectives, saying, “Las Vegas is where I’ve built my life and where I feel grounded.”

If elected, West pledged to end all U.S. aid to Israel and expressed a desire to see ICE abolished.

In other news, Lee recently attracted attention for some candid remarks on social media, reflecting her frustration with current events. She remarked, “Sorry, I’ve been saying shit a lot lately,” addressing her critics directly.

Lee later defended herself against allegations of being “mentally insane,” attributing her strong language to her commitment to defending the Constitution. “Obviously my words have struck a nerve,” she stated.
