Rogan criticizes the media for prioritizing Jimmy Kimmel over speech restrictions in the UK.

Podcaster Joe Rogan has recently taken aim at the American media, suggesting that it’s fixated on late-night host Jimmy Kimmel instead of addressing what he sees as a troubling decline in free speech within the UK. Kimmel’s remarks regarding the alleged assassin of conservative activist Charlie Kirk have put his show on pause, sparking significant backlash that Rogan labels as a form of censorship.

Rogan points out that concentrating on one talk show host diverts attention from what he considers a serious crackdown on free speech in the UK and across Europe. The British government is under fire for its proposed digital ID initiative, which many critics fear could be used to control dissent.

“It’s crazy that our mainstream media isn’t talking about this more,” Rogan noted, referring to the reported 12,000 annual arrests in the UK for social media posts and other minor offenses. “You’re witnessing a full-on attack on one of the most fundamental rights in the Western world—your ability to express yourself.”

He further expressed concern about how people, including those in the UK, have been arrested for innocuous comments or “loving” posts. With around 120,000 arrests reported, the implementation of digital IDs compounds his worries about civil liberties.

Rogan believes that Americans are more outraged over late-night talk show commentary than they are about the erosion of personal freedoms occurring within English-speaking countries. “People act shocked when they see what’s happening in the UK,” he remarked, yet they seem less concerned about the implications of Kimmel’s monologue and whether it was offensive.

According to him, the controversy surrounding Kimmel creates a false sense of empowerment for Americans while foreign governments inch closer to tightening their grip. He likened the British government’s restrictions to wrestling holds, asserting that citizens are at risk of losing basic freedoms. In recent years, the UK’s stance on free speech has become particularly contentious, especially surrounding issues like immigration and gender ideology.

This growing discontent was palpable during a rally in London on September 13, 2025, where flags representing the Union Jack and St. George were waved by thousands of protesters expressing their frustrations.
