Trump Administration Celebrates American Workers on Labor Day
On Labor Day, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remarked on the significance of the American worker and the supportive policies in place, cautioning that the radical left is intent on reversing the tax cuts currently benefiting families.
“This Labor Day, we celebrate the American worker and the policies that are putting their families first. Under @POTUS, real wages are outpacing inflation, and low-income workers have seen quicker wage growth than those earning more,” Bessent stated, highlighting the creation of over 900,000 private-sector jobs and the tax relief enjoyed by families during the Trump administration.
He added, “Additionally, more than 900,000 private-sector jobs have been created, and working families have claimed $82 billion in tax relief through the Working Families Tax Cuts,” warning, “The radical left wants to repeal these tax cuts. America’s workers deserve to keep more of what they earn, not pay more in taxes.”
Bessent’s assertion aligns with criticisms aimed at Democrats who are advocating for increased taxes on Americans; for example, Texas Senate candidate James Talarico (D) has openly campaigned on the idea of raising taxes.
In his campaign, Talarico advised wealthy individuals, “If you are okay with being taxed more, if you’re okay with me limiting your influence in politics, you are welcome to join this movement that we are building,” acknowledging billionaire Mark Cuban’s participation.
Talarico’s campaign platform emphasizes a “fairer” tax system, claiming that “giant corporations and the wealthiest Americans” should “pay their fair share.” However, there’s often skepticism about whether such promises will effectively translate into relief for working Americans.
Additionally, Talarico has been critical of the “big, beautiful bill” mentioned by Bessent, which preserved tax cuts for middle-class Americans and offered benefits like eliminating taxes on tips and overtime. He labeled the legislation as the “big ugly bill,” alleging it was designed to “cut taxes for their donors.” Importantly, without this bill, taxes would have reverted to pre-2018 levels.
Last month, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) reminded citizens that Democrats opposed not only lower taxes and the removal of taxes on tips but also measures aimed at keeping men out of women’s sports and enhancing border security.
