A group of PGA Tour fans who had been waiting for more than an hour since the end of the second round of the Travelers Championship got a pleasant surprise when Scottie Scheffler emerged from the clubhouse.

Friday was Scheffler’s birthday, as the world’s No. 1-ranked golfer turned 28.

“Happy birthday, Scheffler!” one fan yelled at Scheffler in a PGA Tour video posted to social media.

“Thank you,” he replied quickly.

Scheffler, a recent father, was pushing his son Bennett in a stroller but could only use his right hand because his left was occupied with gifts he wanted to give to fans who had been waiting for hours outside the stadium.

Scheffler wanted to share his birthday cake with them.

“You can give it to everybody,” Scheffler said when asked by a fan how the cake tasted, as she walked away holding the cake in her left hand and pushing a stroller with her son, Bennett, in her right. “We’re not eating it. There was a slice in the cake. We got the whole cake.”

“You guys take cake seriously.”

Fans were amazed as they pulled out items, including Domino’s Pizza boxes, for Scheffler to sign.

“Thank you so much, Scotty!” the fans replied, with one picking up a piece of cake as Scheffler handed out autographs.

Scheffler even signed the cake boxes at the request of fans who held them.

“Scotty Scheffler gave me a birthday cake and signed my pizza box,” fans cheered with joy, and the video ended.

Scheffler is a folksy guy and goes into this weekend in Cromwell, Connecticut, with a strong chance of winning again on this season’s Tour.

Scheffler shot six under par yesterday at TPC River Highlands to move into a tie for second place at 11 under par for the tournament with Akshay Bhatia and Collin Morikawa.
