The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a case that could clarify whether state abortion bans violate the federal Emergency Medical Care Act.

In Monday's ruling, the court upheld a lower court ruling siding with Texas that found the Biden administration's emergency medical care law was improperly issued.

The dispute between Texas and the administration centered on whether federal law requires hospitals to perform abortions in emergency situations, such as when necessary to stabilize a patient's condition.

The administration argued that Texas' law was too restrictive, but lower courts found there was no direct challenge to federal law. The Lone Star State bans abortion in most cases, but allows it in cases where the mother's life is at risk.
