Second former Trump lawyer predicts defeat at Supreme Court over immunity

Another former President Trump’s lawyer predicted the Supreme Court would rule against Trump’s immunity from criminal prosecution.

Former Trump lawyer Timothy Parlatore spoke on CNN On “The Source with Caitlan Collins,” he said he believes the Supreme Court will likely take up Trump’s immunity case and rule against the former president.

“I think it would be worthwhile for the Supreme Court to weigh in and clarify what types of conduct are and are not exempt,” he told CNN host Caitlan Collins on Tuesday. I think there is,” he said. “I don’t think it will affect the outcome. I don’t think it will change what happens in this trial.”

Earlier Tuesday, a three-judge panel upheld a lower court’s ruling, ruling that the former president is not immune from criminal prosecution as a former executive, and based on that argument a 2020 federal election lawsuit. thwarted his efforts to raise the issue. President Trump has until February 12 to file an emergency appeal to the Supreme Court regarding his presidential immunity claim.

Parlatore said that even if the Supreme Court were to take up the case, the justices would not overturn the district court’s ruling.

“I do not believe the Supreme Court is going to overturn this decision and grant the former president the blanket immunity he is seeking,” he said.

Parlatore’s prediction echoes that of another former Trump lawyer. Former White House Counsel Ty Cobb said after the ruling that he expected the Supreme Court to rule unanimously against the former president.

Collins also asked Parlatore what he thought about the committee calling him “the people’s Trump” in Tuesday’s ruling because of his close collaboration with the former president. Parlatore left Trump’s defense team in the federal secrets case last year.

“I think he probably takes it more personally, especially the part about National Trump. I think he’s probably more focused on that. But at the end of the day, his lawyers and “He has some very good lawyers on this particular issue, but I wish he would refocus just on the legal side,” he said.

The Trump campaign announced Tuesday that the former president plans to appeal the ruling, with spokesman Stephen Chan saying the president “respectfully disagrees with the D.C. Circuit’s decision.”
