Burglary at Chicago Trading Card Store
Early Monday morning, at least two individuals were filmed breaking into a trading card and comic shop in Chicago.
Ronnie Holliday, who owns Elite Sports Cards, mentioned he received an alarming call about the robbery around 2 a.m. “It’s not a call you want to get at that hour,” he reflected.
As alarm bells echoed throughout the shop, the thieves managed to steal around $100,000 worth of merchandise, which included rare Pokémon packs and sports cards.
Surveillance footage showed two robbers clad in hoodies and face coverings rushing into the store shortly after 1:54 a.m. They bypassed the cash register entirely, heading straight for the high-value cards. Thankfully, no one was hurt during the ordeal.
Holliday expressed concern that the thieves might have scoped out the place before the crime. “It definitely seems they had some prior encounters. They moved quickly and knew where to go,” he speculated.
The method they used to break in remains unclear, but Holliday mentioned plans for security enhancements moving forward. “We need to upgrade our windows… It’s costly—like thousands of dollars,” he admitted.
As a small business owner, Holliday shared his frustration. “This isn’t something that was handed to me. I put in the effort every day for this,” he said, delivering a poignant message to the thieves. “You’ve taken away my livelihood.”
While the police are investigating the incident, no arrests have been reported yet.
