Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut offered a chilling signal that the truth about the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump will “shock, amaze and appall” the American people after meeting privately with Acting Director of the U.S. Secret Service Ronald Roe on Thursday.
A few days after Trump was shot in Pennsylvania,
ActBlue Donor Who Reportedly Sens. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Gary Peters (D-Mich.) shared content online in support of Biden. Announced The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee has launched a bipartisan investigation into the security failures that led to the bloody July 13 attack.
Over the next few months, committee members have been recording interviews with officials connected to the Butler rally.
Committee Member Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wis.)
Shown “The bipartisan Senate investigation into the matter on July 13th has left more questions than answers at this point, and we continue to request witnesses and documents from the Secret Service and the FBI,” he said this week.
“We are absolutely committed to the truth.”
Johnson also said the commission would publish its preliminary report “in the very near future.”
Rowe gave an update to members of both the House and Senate on Thursday that appeared to confuse some lawmakers.
Johnson referred to “the dissatisfaction that has been expressed against Acting Commissioner Rowe.”
Reported New York Post.
The explanation also left Blumenthal with the impression that the committee's upcoming report would be disruptive. Connecticut Democrat
said Americans will be shocked by the contents of the report on “Secret Service Failures During Assassination Attempt on a Former President.”
“But I think they should be appalled and appalled that the Department of Homeland Security wasn't more forthright and honest in providing information,” Blumenthal added. “We're absolutely going to insist on the truth, the complete truth, in the documents and in the testimony.”
Blumenthal did not offer details when asked what the closed-door meeting found, but reiterated that the report “will certainly come as a shock to the American people.”
It should — about the inadequacies and delays in protecting advocates that day, and the breakdown in communications.”
Blaze News investigative reporter Steve Baker, who has extensively investigated what happened on July 13 with reporter Joe Hanneman, doubts the committee's report will be as shocking as Blumenthal suggests.
“To be honest, I don't know what they'll show other than the 'shock' of unprecedented incompetence by the USSS, perhaps a 'hint' of 'deliberate incompetence,'” Baker said. “Other than that insinuation, I can't imagine they'll present any evidence that there was a conspiracy behind the assassination attempt.”
“Blade News experts believe there are clear signs of professional 'grooming' behind Thomas Crooks' actions, but Crooks's grooming is a very small group — probably no more than three agents and no more than five people 'in the know,'” Baker continued. “These agents will never speak, and they themselves will believe it is the job of 'God and country' to save us from the 'democracy-destroying dictatorship' of a second Trump Administration.”
As for a report from Congress, Baker suggested it would only lead to “further statements and questions about serious failures and incompetence. Barring a miraculous new discovery or an unexpected whistle-blower from within the intelligence community, that's where the report will end.”
While the report may be unfounded, even more officials involved in the Trump rally that took place on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, may soon find themselves without a job.
Asked whether more people should resign, Blumenthal replied, “Without question, without debate, we need more accountability. People need to be held accountable,” the Post quoted him as saying.
“Without accountability, without a sense of someone being at the center, these kinds of failures and lapses will happen again,” the Connecticut Democrat added.
“I don't think the security chief who was in charge that day should do that again,” Senator Paul told reporters after the press conference.
Despite initially indicating her intention to remain as Director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle resigned in disgrace and several agents were reportedly placed on administrative leave a few weeks later.
USSS Deputy Chief of Staff Michael Plati is also stepping down.
Prati's spokesperson
said “Mike has been talking about this for over a year. He is retiring on the anniversary of his 27th year with the Secret Service. He will become the acting director,” Fox News reported this week. [Ronald] “I have not been asked to retire or resign, and anyone who says otherwise is lying,” Rowe said last month before the Democratic National Convention.
The Secret Service similarly suggested that Plati “was not asked by anyone to resign or retire.”
