Sen. Kennedy advises Democrats to calm down about Trump's response to the LA anti-ICE protests

Senator Criticizes Federal Response to LA Protests

Senator John Kennedy has expressed his distress over the federal intervention by the Trump administration in the Los Angeles protests against ICE. He criticized what he sees as “sheep” in charge of the predominantly Democratic state and argued that “wolves” need to be addressed on the streets.

Speaking on “American Newsroom,” Kennedy stated, “I think they’re all those people [Democrats].” He added that the issue is straightforward, remarking that one doesn’t need to be an expert to grasp the situation. “There’s a wolf problem in Los Angeles. They’re not peaceful protesters. They’re wolves. They’re hurting people,” he emphasized.

Louisiana Republicans have joined Kennedy in their critiques of Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Kennedy mentioned that many Americans expect the president to take firm action to resolve the unrest, asserting, “More sheep are not going to stop wolves. The federal government is sending troops to address the problem. Last night was an improvement. It’s going to be better tonight.”

In response, Newsom’s office had previously told Fox News Digital that the protests did not escalate to “riot” status. Newsom’s communications director, Izzy Gurdon, remarked humorously, “LA RIOTS? Have these geniuses seen what happens when the Eagles win a playoff game?” in light of criticism from California Republicans.

Moreover, Newsom and state Attorney General Rob Bonta announced a lawsuit against the Trump administration, alleging an “illegal takeover” of the California State Guard, which they claim goes beyond Trump’s authority.

In a statement, Newsom described Trump’s actions as instilling fear and criticized the undermining of constitutional authority. A press release from his office declared the situation a manufactured crisis allowing Trump to overstep and disturb democratic principles.

Mayor Bass characterized the deployment of security as a “chaotic escalation” and noted that the fear in the city is quite real, impacting communities and families. She urged protesters to maintain peace and communicated with local immigration rights leaders and law enforcement about the current situation.

Other Democrats, including Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman, have voiced their concerns. On social media, Fetterman remarked that the ongoing chaos is damaging to free speech and peaceful demonstrations, stating, “This is disorderly and true confusion.” He added, “My party loses moral high ground when it refuses to condemn burning cars, destroying buildings, and attacking law enforcement.”
