Sen. McCormick Discloses Trump's Plan to Financially 'Squeeze' Iran

Senator Comments on Trump’s Economic Strategy Against Iran

According to Senator Dave McCormick from Pennsylvania, President Trump is effectively “strangling” Iran’s economy to compel the “radical lunatics” in charge of the country to abandon their nuclear weapons ambitions.

During a conversation with Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow at the 2026 Republican Jewish Coalition National Leadership Summit on August 31, McCormick discussed the economic strategy Trump has adopted regarding Iran. Marlow inquired about Trump’s choice to pursue economic warfare rather than direct military action.

McCormick explained that Trump has always maintained that all available tools would be utilized to address the situation. He highlighted the success of military operations in diminishing Iran’s military capacity, claiming that the effectiveness of current efforts far surpasses that of the Gulf War, which was once considered the pinnacle of high-tech warfare. He cited statistics indicating that the level of destruction in the ongoing campaign is significantly greater.

While acknowledging that Iran’s military abilities have not been entirely eliminated, he noted a dramatic reduction. Alongside military pressure, he emphasized that the economic campaign aims to intensify strain on Iran’s leadership. For example, he mentioned that inflation is soaring at 70 percent, the currency has lost 40 percent of its value, and the economy has contracted by six percent, with unemployment exceeding ten percent. Basic necessities such as fuel and bread are in short supply, creating lines of people waiting for these essentials.

McCormick further asserted that the dual approach of military and economic pressure is designed to motivate Iran to consider abandoning its nuclear program, which it has so far resisted. He attributed a significant part of Iran’s economic woes to the blockade, as its economy heavily relies on oil.

The senator highlighted that further actions will target countries engaged in trade with Iran, introducing a new phase of economic pressure through secondary sanctions. This strategy involves warning other nations that they will face sanctions if they do business with Iran, tightening the noose even more.

He described the current situation as presenting Iran with a decisive choice: to continue on their current destructive path or to negotiate and relinquish their nuclear ambitions. McCormick expressed hope that this new approach would escalate the pressure on Iran.

He reflected on why Trump opted for a more measured approach rather than dismantling Iran’s economy completely, suggesting that the aim is to foster a prosperous Iran. He noted that the Iranian populace is not the adversary; rather, it is the radical leaders who have governed for decades who pose the problem.
