Senate Border Bill Will Be Exploited by Criminal Cartels and ‘Lawless’ Mayorkas

Congress should only pass border agreements that end the “perverse incentives” for illegal immigration created by Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, said House Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green (R-Tenn.). said Sunday night.

Senate negotiators unveiled the long-awaited pro-immigration border deal Sunday night, days before a Senate vote.

Greene promised the House would not bow to the Senate bill’s inevitability.

“I stand with Chairman Johnson in opposing any new agreement that fails to eliminate the perverse incentives Mr. Mayorkas has created through his illegal mass capture and release program and his refusal to remove those who have no legal basis to remain in the country.”

Mr. Greene’s committee has led a year-long investigation into Mr. Mayorkas’ failure to enforce immigration laws both inside and outside the country’s borders. Days before the border deal was announced, the committee successfully referred articles of impeachment against Mayorkas to the House.

Greene said Biden and Mayorkas have the means to secure the border but have chosen not to do so and have actually taken steps to reverse President Donald Trump’s successful border policies.

Greene said she was “firmly opposed” to any deal that would yield to the false inevitability of illegal immigration, and said before any progress could be made at the border, there would need to be an administration that followed the law. And a deal in which pro-border security legislators make sacrifices to pro-open border Democrats and Republicans will be paid only by those who want a secure border.

“Congress, with its bipartisan majorities, has given the executive branch all the powers it needs to enforce our laws and secure our borders,” he said. “These majorities have mandated the detention and removal of unacceptable aliens, using parole under very limited and exceptional circumstances. It will only be further exploited by lawless bureaucrats.”

“We must end this historic border crisis not through legislative ‘feel-good’ efforts, but through law enforcement.”
