Michigan Senate Candidate McMorrow Faces Backlash for Convention Entrance
Mallory McMorrow, a Democratic candidate for the Senate in Michigan, has recently encountered a significant amount of negative attention following her dramatic entrance at the state Democratic convention. Many have compared her performance to a similar one by Kamala Harris, who ran unsuccessfully for president.
In a post on X, McMorrow’s team shared a video showcasing her lively arrival, stating, “Mallory McMorrow entered the second half of today’s competition surrounded by DrumKINGZ and a crowd of supporters.” They added that “Many people are calling it McMentum.”
The video captured McMorrow dancing, skipping, and clapping along with a marching band, while a supporter held up a large cutout of her face, which had a surprisingly animated expression.
However, the reception didn’t go as her campaign had hoped. Numerous observers began drawing comparisons between McMorrow and Harris, particularly referencing Harris’s awkward dancing at the 2019 Iowa Democratic Party’s Celebration of Freedom and Justice—another moment that didn’t go over well.
One user on X remarked, “Then jerk! Now jerk!” showcasing side-by-side clips of both performances. Another user responded, “No one called this thing McMentum,” with yet another adding, “Most people call it Macringe.”
A different user questioned the intention behind the cutout posters, saying, “Do they realize how selfish and weird that is? Really weird choice.”
McMorrow is among several Democrats competing for the seat currently held by retiring Senator Gary Peters. Notably, she has also been vocal regarding immigration issues, having raised funds for organizations that support immigrant rights, including groups working to protect undocumented immigrants.
A recent Emerson College poll indicated a close race in the Democratic primary, with McMorrow and Abdul El-Sayed each at 24% support, while Rep. Haley Stevens trails with 13%. A significant portion of voters, 36%, remain undecided.
