Several Democrats supported President Trump, emphasizing the necessity of unity to combat terrorism following a joint US and Israeli strike on Iran. Senators John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), Rep. Don Davis (D-North Carolina), and Rep. Greg Landsman (D-Ohio) issued a statement commending Trump for his decisive actions. Landsman highlighted the U.S. efforts in “disabling Iranian missiles and bombs to save more lives.”
Fetterman referred to the operation as “Operation Epic Fury” and stated that Trump has taken the necessary steps to foster lasting peace in the region. He also expressed gratitude towards the military and Israel.
Davis emphasized the importance of collaboration to end terrorism and human rights violations. He pointed out that a regime that endorses terrorism cannot be reliable, as it destabilizes neighboring countries and poses a threat to the safety of Americans and their allies.
Davis further mentioned the imperative for the world to unify against terrorism and proliferation, stressing the need for congressional oversight as well.
Landsman reiterated the U.S.’s mission to destroy Iranian weaponry to thwart further loss of life and noted that such strikes are intended to target military infrastructure, while cautioning Iranian civilians to steer clear of these sites.
He also suggested that if it weren’t for the Iranian regime’s actions, peace might have been achievable in the region, attributing chaos to both the Iranian government and Hamas in Gaza, which have instigated violence through Hezbollah in Lebanon.
This statement from the Democratic lawmakers followed Trump’s announcement of a coordinated attack with Israel on Iran, aimed at neutralizing an “imminent threat” from the Iranian government.
The strikes occurred overnight, with Trump addressing the Iranian populace, indicating that the airstrike was directed at a threat that poses danger to the U.S., its military, and international allies. He mentioned that there had been recent military operations involving U.S. forces in Iran.
Subsequently, Iran retaliated by attacking Israel. Trump stated that the goal was to dismantle Iran’s missile supply and obliterate its missile production capabilities, emphasizing the necessity of preventing Iran’s long-range missiles from threatening the U.S. or European allies.
Later, Trump verified reports about the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei in an Israeli strike on his Tehran residence. He described Khamenei as “one of the most evil people in history,” asserting that his death represents justice for the Iranian populace and for many around the globe who suffered at Khamenei’s hands.
