Backlash Against Sesame Street’s Pride Month Post
The beloved children’s show “Sesame Street” has come under scrutiny following a recent social media post celebrating LGBTQ “Pride Month.”
Published on June 1, the post featured colorful doll arms representing the rainbow from the Pride flag, along with the caption, “Everyone is welcome on our streets.”
This post garnered 17 million views on platform X, sparking a rapid backlash from users who criticized the content as “pushing sexual identities.”
“I recommend focusing on your child’s content rather than inserting sexual identity discussions. I grew up with Sesame Street, but I don’t let my kids watch it anymore due to this nonsense,” one user commented.
“Children don’t concern themselves with sexual preferences. It’s only inappropriate adults who bring up such topics,” another user added.
“It’s hard to understand why a public puppet show would promote these ideas to young kids,” remarked conservative commentator Michael Knowles.
A prominent conservative account on TikTok, Libs, responded with a post that included past videos from “Sesame Street” promoting COVID vaccines for children.
Furthermore, “Sesame Street,” funded by PBS, has faced funding challenges recently, particularly after former President Donald Trump’s administration moved to defund the network.
Last year during Pride Month, the show featured a segment with two gay fathers and their families, attempting to promote acceptance.
“Families come in all shapes and sizes, celebrating culture like everyone celebrates food. Join Mia, her father Dave, and Frank as they share recipes from Aros Imperial,” the Sesame Street account explained in a video segment.
PBS has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over funding decisions, arguing that these actions are unconstitutional.
