Authorities have reported that several individuals aboard civilian planes that crashed in the San Diego area early Thursday have died.
At a press conference, Fire Chief Assistant Dan Eddie indicated that an investigation would look into whether the aircraft struck a power line.
He confirmed that no one on the ground sustained injuries.
According to San Diego police and firefighters, the aircraft could hold between eight and ten passengers, though they are still uncertain about how many were on board. Eddie reiterated that there were no injuries on the ground.
“When I hit the street, the jet fuel ignited and ended up destroying all the cars on either side of the street,” Eddie remarked. “You can see that every single vehicle is ablaze on both sides.”
Officials in San Diego have not provided information about the specific aircraft involved, but have stated it was traveling from the Midwest.
Flight tracking services show that Cessna Quote II jets were scheduled to land at Montgomery Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego at 3:47 AM, arriving from Colonel James Jabala Airport in Wichita, Kansas.
