Shotgun-toting Texas homeowner fatally shoots intruder who allegedly refused to leave property, lunged at homeowner, wife

A San Antonio, Texas, homeowner armed with a shotgun shot and killed an intruder who allegedly refused to leave his property and lunged at him and his wife.

Police were dispatched around 1 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 800 block of Allende Drive on the city’s west side for a report of a shooting. KEYE-TV reported.

According to the sheriff’s office, the homeowner reported he became fearful for his and his wife’s safety when a man lunged at them.

Investigators told the station that a man came to the front door of the home, but the homeowner told him to leave.

KEYE said the man returned a short time later and was again asked to leave.

Soon after, the homeowner heard noises coming from the backyard, authorities said. He told MySanAntonio.comThe homeowner then grabbed a shotgun and searched the yard, where he saw the same man again, news outlets reported.

The homeowner asked the man to leave the yard, but he lunged at the homeowner and his wife, after which the homeowner shot the man in the abdomen, MySanAntonio.com reported.

Police and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but the man, believed to be around 47 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, KEYE reported.

The department said the homeowner reported he felt unsafe for himself and his wife when the man lunged at him, and that no charges have been filed against the homeowner as police continue to investigate.

Neither the homeowner nor his wife were injured in the incident, KEYE said.

Comments on KEYE’s Facebook post about the incident were divided on the outcome, with some siding with the homeowner who fired the fatal shot.
