Ski legend Bode Miller challenges police report as he speaks out about Idaho drug arrest

Bode Miller Challenges Drug Possession Arrest

Olympic skiing icon Bode Miller is disputing an arrest for drug possession that stemmed from a friend allegedly having marijuana without his knowledge, coinciding closely with the anniversary of his daughter’s passing.

Miller, who boasts six Olympic medals in alpine skiing, was taken into custody on June 6 in Fremont County, Idaho, facing charges for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, as detailed in court documents.

“I was passing another car on the highway and got pulled over,” Miller explained in a post on Instagram. He went on to clarify that his friend had a small amount of marijuana and a pipe, which he was unaware of. “We fully cooperated with the officers and anticipate that the misdemeanor charges will be dropped after the facts come to light.”

Interestingly, during the arrest, police also charged Miller with having magic mushrooms. Court records indicate he was found carrying a bag containing 4.1 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, according to a statement from Fremont County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Hart.

At 48 years old and a father of eight, Miller posted a $5,000 cash bail and entered a not guilty plea during a court appearance on June 12. A pretrial hearing has been set for July 29.

This incident unfolded just two days prior to the eighth anniversary of his daughter’s tragic death, who drowned at a pool party when she was 19 months old. Emmeline was rushed to a hospital but sadly did not survive.

Following the tragedy, Miller and his wife, Morgan, have become advocates for heightened water safety awareness among parents.

Miller ranks among the top American athletes in Winter Olympic history with his multiple medals. His Olympic journey spanned five events from 1998 to 2014, where he secured at least one medal in all but slalom. His highlight came in the 2010 Vancouver Games, when he clinched his sole gold medal in the combined event.

His last major race took place at the 2015 World Championships in Colorado. However, due to an injury sustained when catching his arm in a gate, he had to withdraw from the super-G event, marking a challenging end to his competitive career.

Miller officially retired from skiing in 2017 but has remained connected to the sport through various roles, including broadcasting.
