Social media reacts to Trump ‘dominating world leaders’ with Macron handshake during meeting in France

Social media users were outraged on Saturday after President-elect Trump shared a “dominant” handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron during a meeting in Paris.

President Trump traveled to France to attend the reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, his first overseas trip since winning the 2024 presidential election. Ahead of the event, Trump met with Macron, and the two shook hands in a gesture that quickly went viral online.

During a 2017 meeting during President Trump's first term, the two world leaders shook hands for 29 seconds and appeared to drag back and forth as he walked with his wife.

President Trump's handshakes with world leaders have been a hot topic for years, including when he pulled Russian President Vladimir Putin's arm during a handshake at the 2019 G20 summit.
