Zohran Mamdani, a candidate for mayor in New York City, has not provided feedback regarding the extreme platforms discussed at a recent socialist conference in Chicago held over the Fourth of July weekend, as discovered by Fox News Digital.
The “Socialism 2025” event convened from Thursday to Sunday, featuring calls to overthrow the U.S. government, promoting high school students to advocate against “DIY” abortions, and attendees were required to wear N95 masks indoors. Fox News reached out to Mamdani’s campaign to inquire whether they aligned with these radical ideas or planned to implement them if elected mayor. However, a response was not immediately forthcoming.
While Mamdani did not attend the Chicago meetings, he labels himself a democratic socialist and has previously supported extreme leftist policies, such as abolishing private homeownership in favor of communal living.
The conference featured panels led by professors and community activists discussing various themes, including social movements and Marxism. In fact, Mamdani’s office was provided with significant quotes and platforms from the conference, one of which came from a high school teacher who expressed a desire to “radiate” her activist views.
An audience member referred to the potential for college students to have been radicalized earlier. Another activist similarly urged the audience to reconsider the structure of U.S. governance, stating, “We don’t live in a democracy. We should start saying it more.” This activist emphasized the need for systemic change. There were also discussions about holding an abortion panel to share information about obtaining legal abortion pills.
In another part of the conference, discussions about family and its structures prompted an activist to challenge the conventional views of family, suggesting that “capitalist care must be abolished.” She questioned whether family arrangements genuinely meet people’s needs, proposing “mutual assistance” as an alternative.
More contentiously, a Chicago activist declared intentions to “dismantle the U.S.,” urging participation in activism and emphasizing decolonization as essential for humanity’s survival.
In the political arena, Mamdani has shown significant promise, having previously outperformed well-known competitor Andrew Cuomo in polls. President Trump has labeled Mamdani as a “communist madman,” pledging to protect New York City from what he perceives as impending threats. Overall, Mamdani’s rising profile in politics reflects a growing acceptance of leftist ideals, even amid a landscape that often appears hostile to such views.
