Less than three weeks ago it looked like 10 of Australia’s World Cup-winning XI would be off to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, with David Warner the only man missing. Now there are six men standing: Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and the Mitches, Starc and Marsh, have all been ruled out, and Australia find themselves having to rebuild a great team on the hoof.

This is their last official ODI before the Champions Trophy opener against England a week tomorrow. At the moment no warm-ups are scheduled, so Australia are likely to pick what Andrew McDonald thinks is their provisional XI going into the tournament.

That should mean a return for Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis, though it’s the composition of the bowling attack that is more intriguing. Adam Zampa is a sure thing; the other three or four places are up for grabs.

The bowling ability of Maxwell and Head, as well as Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Short, plus the stellar batting form of Alex Carey, gives them plenty of options both in terms of personnel and the balance of the side.

Today’s match should give us a pretty good idea of their thinking, and whether this rejigged team has the potential to add the Champions Trophy to Australia’s bulging cabinet.

Important Events
Second time: Sri Lanka 8-0 (Nissanka 4, Madhushka 4) Aaron Hardy, who bowled very well in his first ODI, shares a new ball. Madhushka hits a cut into the ground and the four of them hit past the backward point to get down the mark. For now, Sri Lanka has exclusively dealt with boundaries.
I think commentators Russell Arnold and Simon Catic have a similar pitch to that of ODI. Australia doesn't want to chase over 220.
1st time: Sri Lanka 4-0 (Nissanka 4, Madhushka 0) Dwarschwis, who is performing his second ODI, encourages him early. Nissanka sweetly times the fourth ball through extra cover for the first boundary. That's a lot.
Time for action. LFM's Ben Dwarshuis opens bowling from Nissanka's Pathum.
Team News: Dwarsh and Sanga among five changes
I thought Australia would choose the interim XI for the Champions Trophy, but Andrew McDonald decided to take a break from some starters. There are five changes from the first ODI. Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glen Maxwell, Bendwarschus and Tanversanga will replace Cooper Connolly, Alex Carrie, Marna Slavschine, Nathan Ellis and Spencer Johnson.
Sri Lanka brings Nishan Madhushka for Abishka Fernando.
Sri Lanka Nissanka, Madhushka, Kusar Mendis (WK), Kamindu Mendis, Asarranka (c), Riyanaj, Welarage, Hasaranga, Tekshana, Maringa, Asisa Fernando.
Australia Short, Head, Fraser-Mcgurk, Smith (C), Inglis (WK), Maxwell, Hardy, Abbott, Dwarsh, Zampa, Sanga.
Sri Lanka wins toss and bats
Australia will probably chase on equally nasty pitches, like the first ODI

Hello, welcome to Overby Over Coverage, the second final ODI live between Sri Lanka and Australia in Colombo.
Less than three weeks later, it appeared that 10 of the Australian World Cup-winning XIs would be heading out to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. There are currently six men standing there. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitch, Stark and Marsh are all excluded, and Australia has realised they have to rebuild their fantastic hoofed team.
This is their last official ODI before the Champions Trophy Opener against England tomorrow week. At this point, there is no warm-up planned, so Australia may choose what Andrew McDonald thinks is the interim XI in the tournament.
That should mean the returns of Travis Head, Glen Maxwell and Josh Inglis, but that's a more interesting bowling attack composition. Adam Zampa is for sure. Three or four other places get grabs.
Maxwell and Head's bowling abilities, Marne Slavschine and Matthew Short, as well as Alex Carrey's star batting form offer many options in terms of both HR and aspect balance.
Today's match should give them a pretty good idea of their thinking, and whether this rigid team could add the Champions Trophy to Australia's inflated cabinets.
