Prominent Democrat Stacey Abrams joined several members of her party who have broken her silence on Biden’s candidacy, saying that while she fully supports the sitting president, she doesn’t think liberals will change their minds in the debate’s aftermath.
Abrams, a former Georgia House minority leader who famously refused to concede defeat to Gov. Brian Kemp in the 2018 election, said no one on the left is suddenly defecting from Biden’s campaign to Trump’s.
“Anti-Biden pessimism is loud right now, but it’s mostly a phenomenon among those who obsessively follow the news and those who like to make the news,” Abrams writes. Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Most of the voters Biden needs to win and re-win already know his weaknesses, and they’re not going to say en masse, ‘I’m now going to vote for a bigoted, dictatorial liar.'”

Trump has previously criticized Abrams on multiple occasions, including over a so-called “consent decree” between Georgia officials and political activists who support Abrams over the 2020 ballot signature matching process.
But the former president also implicitly praised Abrams in his slamming of Kemp – one of the few conservatives he has publicly criticized.
“of course, [Abrams] “If you want to know the truth, I think you could do better than the current governor,” Trump joked at a 2021 rally in Perry, Georgia.
In her comments, Abrams said the aftermath of the Trump-Biden debate was centered on “performance and principles.”

“Good people stumble. Liars lie,” Abrams said. “We have become myopically fascinated with the latter, because it seems easier for some people to assuage their fears than to confront the slow death of democracy.”
Abrams argued that of the two candidates, Biden is the only one who poses no threat to American institutions.
She called Trump a “selfish criminal” who embodied “authoritarian tendencies” that she said outweighed any concerns she had about Biden.
Abrams also urged Biden to stay in the White House and remain in the race, arguing that a restart at this late stage could weaken the Democratic message and lead to him being replaced by someone with a “significant national track record.”

“Let’s be clear: the desirable benefits of a convention fight or late withdrawal far outweigh the potential harm. President Joe Biden has the integrity, morality and track record he needs to defeat President Donald Trump in November,” Abrams said.
“Our path to victory lies in supporting Biden and understanding the importance of this election.”
Abrams ran unsuccessfully against Kemp in 2022, but conceded defeat shortly after the election.
